Avalanche Announce Monday Roster Moves

Veteran D-Man Signs Extension

The Colorado Avalanche made a flurry of Monday moves, highlighted by the signing of veteran defenseman Ryan Murray to a two-year extension.

Other Transactions

In addition to Murray's extension, the Avalanche also:

  • Signed goaltender Jonas Johansson to a one-year contract.
  • Placed defenseman Bowen Byram on long-term injured reserve.
  • Assigned defenseman Justin Barron to the AHL's Colorado Eagles.

The moves come as the Avalanche prepare for the upcoming regular season, which begins October 13.

Murray's Extension

Murray, 29, has played in 567 career NHL games with the Columbus Blue Jackets, New Jersey Devils, and Avalanche. He has 32 goals and 127 assists for 159 points in his career.

Murray is a versatile defenseman who can play both the left and right sides. He is also a strong penalty killer.

Murray's extension is a sign that the Avalanche are confident in his ability to contribute to their success in the years to come.

Johansson's Signing

Johansson, 27, has played in 104 career NHL games with the Buffalo Sabres and San Jose Sharks. He has a record of 40-38-16 with a 3.07 GAA and a .907 save percentage.

Johansson is expected to serve as the Avalanche's backup goaltender behind Alexandar Georgiev.

Johansson's signing gives the Avalanche a solid tandem in net for the upcoming season.
